24.5MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 7
The Z5II pairs a 24.5-megapixel full-frame (FX-format) CMOS sensor measuring 35.9 x 23.9 mm with the EXPEED 7 image-processing engine. Standard ISO sensitivity runs from 100 to 64000 for stills and 100 to 51200 for video; stills expand down to an ISO 50 equivalent, and both expand up to an ISO 204800 equivalent. Still images can be recorded as 14-bit NEF (RAW), JPEG or HEIF, and pixel-shift photography is available.

Hybrid Autofocus with Subject Detection
The hybrid phase-detection/contrast AF system offers 273 focus points in single-point AF and 299 in auto-area AF, both counts applying to still photography on the FX image area. The detection range is -10 to +19 EV, measured in photo mode with AF-S, single-point AF on the center focus point, ISO 100 equivalent, an f/1.2 lens and 20 degrees C. Subject detection covers nine subject types, 3D-tracking is available in photo mode, and AF-A, available in photo mode, selects single-servo focus for stationary subjects and continuous-servo for moving ones.

Up to 30 fps with Pre-Release Capture
Continuous high-speed (extended) shooting runs at approximately 14 fps with JPEG, or 15 fps with silent mode on; with NEF (RAW), approximately 11 fps, or 8.3 fps with silent mode on. High-speed frame capture + records at approximately 15 fps (C15) or 30 fps (C30), both recording JPEG only. Pre-Release Capture buffers frames from the moment the shutter-release button is held halfway; a full press then saves those from the last interval chosen in the menu. Shutter speeds run from 1/8000 to 30 s, and can be extended to 900 s in mode M.

4K UHD 60p and N-RAW Video
Video records at 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) up to 60p and Full HD (1920 x 1080) up to 120p, with Full HD slow-motion at 4x or 5x. At 3840 x 2160, 60p and 50p record only in the DX image area (approx. 23.7 x 13.3 mm); at 30p, 25p and 24p either FX (approx. 35.9 x 20.2 mm) or DX can be chosen. N-RAW 12-bit video is available at 4032 x 2268 (FX) up to 30p, alongside H.265/HEVC (8-bit or 10-bit) in MOV and H.264/AVC in MP4; N-RAW is written to NEV. N-Log and HDR (HLG) tone modes, electronic vibration reduction, time codes and a wave-form display are included. Hi-Res Zoom is available with the FX image area in H.265 or H.264 at 1920 x 1080 30p, 25p or 24p.

5-Axis In-Body Vibration Reduction
The 5-axis image sensor shift VR is rated at up to 7.5 stops at the center of the frame and 6.0 stops at the periphery, based on the CIPA 2024 standard and measured with the NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S at the telephoto end in NORMAL mode.

3690k-Dot OLED Viewfinder and Vari-Angle Touchscreen
The 0.5-inch OLED electronic viewfinder has approximately 3690k dots (Quad VGA), approximately 0.8x magnification measured with a 50 mm lens at infinity, approximately 100% frame coverage and a brightness of 3000 cd/m2, with 18-level manual brightness control. The 3.2-inch vari-angle TFT touchscreen LCD has approximately 2100k dots, a 170-degree viewing angle and 15-level manual brightness control.

Dual UHS-II SD Card Slots
The camera takes two SD cards. SDHC and SDXC cards are UHS-II compliant. The role played by the card in slot 2 can be set to overflow, backup, RAW separated from JPEG or HEIF, or a second set of JPEG or HEIF copies written at another size and quality. Files can be copied from one card to the other.

Connectivity, Accessory Shoe and Flash
Built-in Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n/a/ac) and Bluetooth 5.0 connect the camera to smart devices, and USB streaming (UVC/UAC) is supported through the Type-C SuperSpeed USB connector. The accessory shoe meets ISO 518, carries sync and data contacts plus a safety lock, and supports the Nikon Creative Lighting System with i-TTL flash control, auto FP high-speed sync and optical Advanced Wireless Lighting.

620 g Body, EN-EL15c Power and Supplied Accessories
The body measures approximately 134 x 100.5 x 72 mm and weighs approximately 700 g once a battery and memory card are fitted, excluding the body cap and shoe cover, or approximately 620 g for the body alone. Power comes from one EN-EL15c rechargeable Li-ion battery; EN-EL15b and EN-EL15a batteries can also be used with fewer pictures per charge, and the optional MB-N14 or MB-N11 power battery pack takes two EN-EL15c batteries. Supplied accessories: DK-29 rubber eyecup, BS-1 accessory shoe cover, BF-N1 body cap, EN-EL15c battery with terminal cover, AN-DC26 strap and a USB-C to USB-C cable.
