50mm Standard Prime with f/1.4 Aperture
Standard prime for Sony E-mount covering 35 mm full frame. Angle of view is 47 degrees on 35 mm full frame and 32 degrees on APS-C, where the 35 mm equivalent focal length is 75 mm. Aperture range f/1.4 to f/16.
XA Elements, ED Glass and Nano AR Coating II
14 elements in 11 groups. Two are XA elements (extreme aspherical), which Sony states hold resolution at the edges of the frame, and one is ED glass (extra-low dispersion), which Sony states suppresses chromatic aberration. Nano AR Coating II is applied to the lens surfaces to control flare and ghosting.
11-Blade Circular Aperture
The f/1.4 maximum aperture works with an 11-blade circular diaphragm for the rendering of out-of-focus areas.
Close Focus to 0.41 m
Minimum focus is 0.41 m in autofocus (0.38 m in manual focus) with 0.16x (AF) or 0.18x (MF) maximum magnification.
XD Linear Motor Autofocus
Focus is driven by XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors. Sony states that the motors and their control algorithm minimize vibration, and that autofocus and tracking are supported for both stills and movies.
Aperture Ring with Iris Lock and Click Switch
The barrel carries an iris lock switch and an aperture ring with an aperture click switch.
Focus Hold Buttons and Linear Response MF
Two focus hold buttons and a focus mode switch (AF/MF). Linear Response MF gives direct manual focus control.
